Meet Judy Molland, Author of Get Out!

by Mike Barlow on March 7, 2010

Spending time in Nature can provide deep pleasure and a renewed sense of well-being. Yet recent studies show that kids between the ages of 8 and 18 spend an average of 6.5 hours a day in front of electronic screens.

Get Out! 150 Easy Ways for Kids and Grown Ups to Get Into Nature and Build a Greener Future

On March 21st 2009, award-winning teacher and author Judy Molland dropped by the Trailmix.Net Old Sacramento Store to share highlights from her new book, GET OUT! 150 Easy Ways for Kids and Grown-Ups to Get Into Nature and Build a Greener Future.  Get Out was written for parents who are looking for ways to introduce their children to the natural world.

During our in-store workshop, Judy shared ideas from her book and lead children in some simple activities such as building seashell mobiles, making leaf prints, and creating pine cone bird-feeders (watch the video to learn how to do it).

Get Out is divided into four sections:  Get Started (introducing children to nature and the outdoors), Go Further (projects, plans, and outings), Get Smart (shopping and consumption with a focus on conservation), and Get Active (how to apply the concepts of reduce, reuse, and recycle).  Whether you live in the city, an outlying suburb, or in a more rural setting, Get Out! can help you discover simple and fun things you can do to get outside with your kids, introduce them to nature, and teach habits that are good for your health, the community, and the environment.

Great to see Judy.
I absolutely agree with Judy Molland-the pine cone feeder is a great activity to do with kids of any age.
