Are you looking for a fun, free, outdoor activity in Sacramento for kids? How about a scavenger hunt that takes you to ten historic locations in Old Sacramento, complete with riddles, map, eye-spy activities, and a free prize when you’re done?   No problem, download the free Old Sacramento Scavenger Hunt here!

What is The Old Sacramento Scavenger Hunt?

At Trailmix.Net, we provide products that help parents create educational expeditions by tapping into the learning potential of backyards, state parks, national parks, and other public lands.

The location of our new store in Old Sacramento offered an irresistible opportunity to demonstrate this idea to our visitors. The Old Sacramento Scavenger Hunt is one example of how you can use state parks and national parks to create educational and fun family experiences.

The Old Sacramento Scavenger Hunt takes you to ten locations of historical significance within the boundaries of Old Sacramento including

· The western terminus of the Pony Express

· The Wells Fargo Museum

· A Sacramento newspaper that once employed Mark Twain

· A memorial to Theodore Judah

· The Old Sacramento Schoolhouse Museum

· The Delta King Riverboat

· The Central Pacific Railroad Ticket Office

· The Eagle Theatre

· The Huntington and Hopkins Hardware Store

· The Mechanics Exchange Building (to claim your prize)

At each step of the hunt, players are presented a riddle. The answer to the riddle can be found on a sign, plaque, or other object at the location. Over the course of the hunt, you will visit three free museums in Old Sacramento. Here, younger players (and the young at heart) will enjoy the eye-spy challenges by finding gold rush era items, tools, and equipment.

Starting on June 6th 2009 (our opening day), you can trade your completed hunt for a prize from our treasure chest.

I was wondering if the scavenger hunt is still going on and if so for how long? I thought it was a good idea to take the children to do it. Also our Girl Scout Troop.
Thanks, Cresentia

Cresentia – It’s still up and running. We have had a couple of classes and even corporate groups do the hunt. Give us a call if you have a group larger than 8 so we can make sure that the prize box is stocked up. Our number is 888-95-Trail. Also, you can download the hunt at http://www.oldsacramentoscavengerhunt.com.
